FLY A SPITFIREThe Spitfire Trainer’s history is quite interesting. Vickers-Armstrongs revived the concept after WWII, hoping for a market for advanced trainers. They converted a MkVIII airframe to create a two-seat trainer using minimal modifications.

To fit the instructor’s cockpit, they moved the original one forward by 13.5 inches. They also reduced the front fuselage tank and added wing tanks to compensate for the lost fuel. Only one MkVIII was fully converted, but they registered a second one as G-AKBD. However, this registration was withdrawn in 1948, and no further traces of this aircraft have been found.

The Spitfire, originally a British single-seat fighter, was produced throughout WWII and remained in service after the war. It’s still popular with enthusiasts. Around 70 Spitfires remain airworthy today, while many more are displayed in museums worldwide.

The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II. It was the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war. The Spitfire remains popular among enthusiasts. Around 70 remain airworthy; many more are static exhibits in aviation museums worldwide.
